Ipas Bolivia and the Departmental Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Cruz lead discussion to improve attention to sexual crimes

This past January 27 and 28, Ipas Bolivia and the Departmental Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Cruz organized a discussion and working groups with the aim of building an inter-institutional work route that articulates efforts to comply with current regulations and ensure effective care for victims of sexual violence.

The event was attended by the Attorney General’s Office, the Institute of Forensic Investigations (IDIF), the Ombudsman’s Office, the Bolivian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Santa Cruz, municipal and departmental hospitals, the Bolivian Police, the Network of Lawyers and Advocates in Defense of Sexual and Reproductive Rights, among others.

During the two working days, fundamental commitments and recommendations were established to strengthen inter-institutional collaboration, such as:

  • Continuous, specialized and sensitized training for public servants.
  • Promoting the creation of Integral Victim Assistance Centers.
  • Strict compliance with regulations for the collection and processing of evidence.
  • The promotion of inter-institutional agreements and actions.
  • Priority attention to minors who are victims of sexual violence.
  • The effective implementation of the FreeJustice system.

In addition, it was agreed to evaluate the fulfillment of these commitments within three months, in order to ensure that substantive progress is made in improving care for victims.
