Since 2014, more than 800 complaints were registered against teachers and administrators of educational units in the country for alleged acts of violence and sexual harassment. Of that total, 104 were permanently dismissed, after being proven guilty, informed the Minister of Education, Edgar Pary.

The authority explained that the actions are established in Supreme Decrees 1302 and 1320, norms that aim to “establish mechanisms that contribute to the eradication of violence, mistreatment and abuse that threatens the life and physical, psychological and/or sexual integrity of children and adolescent students in the educational environment”.

“Some colleagues are not taking into account the rights of our students. We teachers have to watch over the training, care and physical and emotional integrity of our girls, boys, young men and women. We have to set an example with our actions,” she said, according to a press release.

In this line, Pary reaffirmed the commitment that his office will not leave unpunished the crimes of violence that occur in the different educational units of the country and reported that the nine Departmental Directorates of Education have criminal professionals who follow up on complaints of violence.
