In the run-up to the general elections, 300 women from all over the country have gathered with a common goal: to generate an agenda with “transforming” proposals. There will be two days of dedicated work in the city of La Paz.
“Community leaders and social leaders, politicians, academics, housewives, among others, who have participated in the process of building the agenda will be present, debating and formulating a set of proposals for the future of the country, in particular, addressed to the candidates and elected authorities so that they turn them into part of their government program and public policies of state management, respectively” (sic), says the shared note.
Since last year, 678 leaders from 25 organizations in urban and rural areas have been working on the construction of a national agenda from the perspective of women. Now, with this new meeting, the aim is to validate this document prepared with participation and debate.
“The agenda emerges as a response from women to the crisis that threatens the advances in human rights in Bolivia, especially those that have been the product of the struggle of Bolivian women. It is a political document that constitutes a roadmap to deepen democracy and depatriarchalization.”
AN AGENDA
Among the issues addressed are political participation and democratization of power; access to justice and the right to a life free of violence; bodily autonomy, sexual and reproductive rights; economic development and democratization of care; and environmental justice.
The Coordinadora de la Mujer and its affiliates, in alliance with Alianza por la Solidaridad, Oxfam, Alerta Montevideo, with funding from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU), the European Union and FOS Feminista support this initiative.
The meeting, which brings together at least 300 representatives of the country, will be held this Thursday and Friday in the city of La Paz. The 2025-2030 agenda can be followed through social networks, where information will be shared with the hashtag #JuntasHacemosHistoria (TogetherWeMakeHistory).
General elections will be held on August 17, 2025. At the polls, the population will be able to elect authorities of the Executive and Legislative bodies. Although in the country there are norms that aim at equity in the candidacies, there are still no concrete nominations of women.
