Bolivia registers more than 30,000 cases of violence; 75% concentrated in the central axis

Between January 1 and August 18, 30,699 cases of violence related to Law 348, to Guarantee Women a Life Free of Violence were registered. Of this figure, 75% is concentrated in the central axis of the country, i.e. Santa Cruz, La Paz and Cochabamba.

The data were published by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which indicate that family or domestic violence is the most reported, with 23,182 cases, followed by sexual abuse, with 2,170.

According to data provided by the director of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Gender and Juvenile Crimes, Alejandra Rocha, the numbers of complaints of violence by department are: Santa Cruz with 10,611; followed by La Paz, with 7,725; Cochabamba, 4,727; Tarija, 2,074; Potosí, 1,801; Chuquisaca, 1,691; Beni, 993; Oruro, 791, and Pando 286.

The number of complaints of family or domestic violence reached 23,182 nationwide. This was followed by sexual abuse with 2,170; rape, 1,861; rape of children or adolescents, 1,634, and statutory rape, 1,094, among others.

FEMINICIDE
To date, 92 cases of attempted femicide have been registered throughout the country.

In view of this situation, Prosecutor Rocha said that the Public Prosecutor’s Office is promoting the creation of a national round table to fight against gender violence and a meeting will be held on August 21 in the city of La Paz.

Likewise, the third International Congress Against Sexual Violence, entitled “Best practices for the care of victims of sexual violence”, will be held on August 23, 24 and 25 in the city of Cochabamba.
