At the Central Affairs Informed Breakfast, the representative of the Casa de la Mujer, Paola García, revealed that some 24,000 complaints of gender violence were received between January and June of this year, an average of 137 per day.

García remarked that the serious problem is not only the domestic violence that women face, but also the indifference and the undermining they receive when they file a complaint with the judicial system or the police. For this reason, many women decide to remain silent and endure the cycle of violence which, in many cases, leads to their death.

“This is a deeply violent and sexist society, that is the background,” Garcia warned.

“We have very good regulations, we have decrees, we have laws, now we need to apply this formal progress to protect women,” she remarked.

“There are more and more complaints of family violence,” he warned.

“Femicides are part of extreme violence.”

“The problem is not only the violence, but the justice system that does not protect them,” said García.

“Women have a hard time dealing with the judicial system,” she explained.

Therefore, “we need women’s reparation work,” García proposed as part of the agenda to improve this situation.
