In Bolivia, there are 24,126 cases of gender-based violence

The Director of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Gender and Juvenile Crimes, Alejandra Rocha, informed on Wednesday that according to the registry of cases entered in the Free Justice Ecosystem of the Public Ministry, from January 1 to June 24, there are 24,126 cases of Gender Violence related to the Integral Law to Guarantee Women a Life Free of Violence in the country.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office reinforces the commitment assumed by the State Attorney General, Juan Lanchipa Ponce in the frontal fight against violence in coordination with all the institutions that are part of the chain of attention to victims, which are the instances called by law to carry out a campaign of prevention, awareness and guidance to reduce the levels of violence within the framework of their attributions, informed Rocha when presenting the statistics of gender-based crimes.

In a press conference, he explained that the highest incidence of cases is in the department of Santa Cruz with 8,468, followed by La Paz with 5,994, Cochabamba 3,720, Tarija 1,622, Potosí 1,382, Chuquisaca 1,334, Beni 769, Oruro 621 and Pando 216.

According to a comparison of the total number of cases in the same period of 2023 there were 23,548 while in 2024 there are already 24,126, that is to say, there is an increase of 2.5%.

The crime with the highest number of cases continues to be Family or Domestic Violence with 18,239, followed by Sexual Abuse with 1,725, Rape with 1,466, Rape of a Child or Adolescent with 1,274, Statutory Rape with 861, among others. The comparison between 2023 and 2024 shows that these crimes have an increase in rape of 10.56%, rape of children and adolescents 6.97%, rape of children and adolescents 2.26%, sexual abuse 1.95% and family or domestic violence 1.78%.

He urged the population to take into account that there are mechanisms, channels and resources available for them to file a complaint, both in the instances that receive and promote complaints regarding any crime related to gender violence.

In this regard, he emphasized that the Public Prosecutor’s Office coordinates with other agencies that form the chain of care and develops national and departmental roundtables to combat violence, working together to implement the Inter-Institutional Action Route (RAI) to attend to cases of victims of violence.

At the same time, he urged the media to generate conditions to maintain the values and principles of the family, to improve affective relationships for the construction of a more just society with a gender perspective.
