On April 11, the campaign “Ni esposas, ni concubinas. Girls are girls,” an initiative promoted by Ipas Bolivia that seeks to raise awareness of the problem of early and forced unions and promote urgent social change. On this occasion, the Bolivisi\u00f3n network officially joined the campaign and supported its dissemination through an event broadcast live on the Facebook pages of both institutions, thus contributing to add voices in defense of girls’ rights. <\/p>\n
Currently, the Bolivian Parliament is debating a bill that seeks to prohibit marriages and free unions with persons under 18 years of age. This legislation aims to protect children and adolescents from early and forced marriages and unions (MUITF) and their consequences. <\/p>\n
In this context, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the negative impacts that MUIFT has on the lives of girls and adolescents in Bolivia. As well as the urgency to position this problem in the public debate and demand concrete actions in the country. <\/p>\n
The event included opening remarks by Dr. Jos\u00e9 Schulz, Ambassador of Germany, and Ms. Adela Yapu, program manager of Ipas Bolivia, who highlighted the importance of generating alliances between institutions, countries and the media to work together to raise awareness and take action in the face of this reality.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, Dr. Mart\u00edn Vidaurre, Ipas Bolivia policy coordinator, together with Dr. Germany Hurtado, health consultant, presented the context of MUIFT, highlighting the health consequences, such as sexual and physical violence, unwanted pregnancies, as well as the repercussions on the development and life plan of girls and adolescents.<\/p>\n
Wara Rojas, communications coordinator for Ipas Bolivia, and Pamela Garc\u00eda Ecos, national press manager for Bolivisi\u00f3n, who commented on the campaign’s actions and presented the anonymous stories mailbox: a digital platform that allows the public to safely and confidentially share their personal or close experiences with MUITFs. This tool seeks to amplify silenced voices and contribute testimonial evidence to the public debate. <\/p>\n

The campaign also has its official page on Instagram, where it shares the statements of different authorities, public figures and the general public who speak out against MUIFT. At the same time, stories that make the issue visible are disseminated. <\/p>\n
