26 femicides and 16 infanticides have been registered in Bolivia from January 1 to April 24, 2024, according to the Attorney General of the State, Juan Lanchipa. This alarming situation has generated great concern about the increase in violence against women and children in the country. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt is worrying and alarming the increase of these violent facts that occur in this last stage. We have 26 cases of feminicide at national level and 16 facts of infanticide in the whole country, and this is worrying because they occur in totally violent scenarios of cruelty with the victims\u201d, expressed Lanchipa. <\/p>\n
La Paz is the department with the highest number of femicide cases, with 8, followed by Cochabamba and Santa Cruz with 5 each. Tarija and Potos\u00ed have 3, while Oruro and Chuquisaca have one, respectively. <\/p>\n
Infanticides<\/p>\n
Regarding infanticide cases, the department of La Paz has the highest incidence with 10 cases, followed by Cochabamba, Oruro and Santa Cruz with 2 cases respectively.<\/p>\n
During the month of January, three victims of infanticide were reported, four in February, six in March and two in April, for a total of 16 cases.<\/p>\n
The latest case occurred in the municipality of Yapacan\u00ed, where a one year and four months old child died from suffocation asphyxia. His stepfather is the main suspect and has been apprehended. <\/p>\n
